2025 in review

This has not been the easiest of years.

No denying it: 2025 brought a lot of grief. Some of it was easy to see coming; some of it caught us off guard. My own community (my city, my neighbourhood, my clients and friends) faced struggles from many different directions. Solstice - the darkness - seemed to hover over us much earlier than usual ... and the need for points of light in that murkiness is strong.

With full acknowledgement that we have a lot of work to do ahead of us, a lot to sort out and try to set right, I also want to acknowledge some of the bright spots that happened this past year.

In 2025, I photographed more than 225 families. Your amazing kids are growing and changing, and still willing to throw a smile toward the camera just for you. Parents: I see you. You're loving your families so hard and it's beautiful.

In 2025, I collaborated with seven DC area schools, using family mini sessions to help raise funds for the school-parent associations. Together we raised more than $6,000 that school communities are using to support teachers, activities and needs among their families.

In 2025, I photographed two pottery artists in their studios, and also worked with nine women to create business portraits for updating their Linked In, websites, and resumes. And I made swim team portraits for a dozen or so young athletes.

In 2025, I made school photos for more than 300 students at Breakthrough Montessori public charter school, and I documented two bar/bat mitzvah celebrations. For the sixth year in a row, I was the volunteer photographer for the Takoma Children's Business Fair. And for the TENTH year, I was the sole photographer for the brilliant Princess Awesome children's clothing company.

I am so grateful for the LIGHT that each of you bring my way when we meet to make photos together. Photography literally means "light writing". The shorthand "photo" - literally is light. As the year comes to a close, I hope that you remain surrounded by light.
