I’m the first to admit that road tripping through the American Midwest during a continental cold snap isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when you think vacation. It was a trip of necessity, but, being the creative weirdos that we are, it morphed into a pretty epic getaway that we will not soon forget.

After “the winter of our discontent”, I for one was really ready for a break, in literally every way. While it didn’t quite pan out like I hoped, I still had some beautiful moments - family trips that were almost more peaceful than usual due to paring back on activities. And in my business, I enjoyed some really terrific family photo sessions that were, more than ever, celebrations of those most basic joys: a new hammock in the backyard, the chance to get the kids out to the pool, a getaway in the nature.

I cringe when I think that my most reliable reminder of this season of my life might be when Facebook shows me my “memories”. I always open that and look back and old pictures and posts I made. But bloody hell – I don’t want Facebook to be the best archive I’ve got of what it’s been life these past years.
