Documenting a Potter's Practice

When Mea at Good Elephant Pottery contacted me to ask if I ever did any product and documentary photography, and if I might be available to photograph some of her pottery as well as her process, and also a meaningful portrait of herself in her studio, I was happy to say YES to all of her questions.

Mea and I discussed her image wish list - the ideal kinds of photos she needed for updating her website, accompanying online pottery making lessons, and for use in her social media. Based on her list, we planned a 3-hour shoot at her studio in Silver Spring, MD.

In spite of the rainy overcast morning, we were able to capture her vision exactly for all the photos she wanted using primarily natural light for the product shots, and supplementing the overhead fluorescents in her studio with a simple ring light to capture her portrait and shots of her at work at her potters wheel.

Mea now has a varied selection of beautiful photos to use for all her business needs.
